FEATURED MEMBER: ZAK'S SUNDRIDGE
Tell us a little about your business?
About us, well…… we are a company that loves to be in business, we find fabulous products and love to have everyone discover them. We want you to be happier when you leave here than when you came in even if you have to spend money… although that is never a requirement, it does help with the fact that we are retail.
Zak’s started on a whim in 1986 when the desire to have access to natural foods in a community that had so much natural beauty and a wee lack of natural retail.
36 Years later I still love being a part of the changing landscape of retail in this spectacular part of the world and offering the very best to my community and now, the virtual world through this website… ever changing.
Why do you love doing business in the Almaguin Highlands?
I always wanted to be an entrepreneur but thought a candy store, old fashioned and colourful would be fun, that is until I realized health was more in line with my actual values. In 1986 there were few teaching jobs and Zak’s was born in the small town of South River, once a thriving northern community, it still had enough businesses to encourage my start up. Yes the community thought “crazy lady” to open a health food store but by 1997 I was one of the few businesses still operating. The move to Sundridge was necessary to keep viable and the expansion into clothing and gifts gave Zak’s the lateral scope to draw from a very wide cliental stretching from Huntsville to North Bay and beyond. After a devastating fire in 2001, it was make Zak’s great or move to Baffin Island and cool off.
What do you offer to your community?
Needless to say…. our customers tell us we have something to offer and after 36 years we want the world to see this Almaguin area from space as a place to keep a healthy lifestyle with products and services that delight the body and spirit. Our staff are what make this business terrific, they are truly the best. Come see for yourself! Zak’s is happily nestled in Sundridge, one of the beautiful villages in the Almaguin Highlands.
